Choose and Connect to Pleasure,
With Debbie Rosas.
For all, especially those leading busy lives, it’s not about waiting until a given day, or a given moment to bring movement and pleasure into our lives. What is important is that we begin to recognize, from the moment we open our eyes to the time we go to sleep, that each day offers us opportunities to choose and connect with pleasure.
To choose and connect with pleasure is as easy as inhaling and exhaling on a tranquil summer afternoon. Movement is what really creates sustainability of pleasure, health, and wellness in our bodies. And we can use any moment for an opportunity to move in our body and life as if it were a boat drifting away on gentle waters.
We need never again, wait to go to a gym at five o’clock to move our bodies for health and wellness. That is why, in The Nia Technique, we say, “Through movement we find health.” In this, a greater state of well being may help one to feel calmer and more peaceful. This wisdom of the body is the intelligence of the body.
There are several different kinds of whole being wisdom. Physical wisdom is the voice of sensation, which sends you signals through the experiences of pain or pleasure. Sensation is a bigger, more immediate, and more accurate wisdom that guides us as we seek to choose and connect with pleasure for wellness every day.
Mental wisdom are those thoughts and images which move across our awareness in ways such as those that allow us to make decisions or solve problems or learn new information in a way that is very important but very different wisdom from sensation. Unfortunately it is a wisdom most people often rely upon.
Emotional wisdom, which is what we receive from our feelings, are always shifting with each new life experience. Emotional wisdom is very, very necessary. It is an important way in which we learn to confront personal needs by expressing and addressing emotions. We use this wisdom as an ever changing guide.
The wisdom of our spirit reflects the unique part of that which makes it possible to discover what is meaningful and purposeful to us in our individual and collective lives. Spiritual wisdom might connect each of us to our sole destiny, while sensation reminds us to be aware of our passionate alignment for destiny.
Put all voices of that wisdom together in body, mind, emotion, and spirit and you get what I refer to as the “voices of the body.” Making a commitment to sensing our body and life, together with choosing and connecting to the sensation of pleasure as our guide will teach us that it is not Ok to say, “Oh it just hurts a little bit.”
Because our bodies rely on us to protect them, care for them, nurture them, and love them, we each need to learn to say “no” to pain and then begin to recognize all the places in our lives where we allow pain to be a part of our lives. We may need to get rid of uncomfortable shoes, or even get out of uncomfortable relationships.
We all must begin to live our lives through all our senses by taking a few moments each day to choose and connect to sensation. Practice throughout the day to listening for sounds in neighborhoods, to observing sights in communities, to touching the body in our possession as an environment of sensation to discover.
When we experience body and life through our senses, we begin to enjoy whole being experiences, fresh as a summer day, which are guided by choosing and connecting to pleasure. This is key to living life as both physical beings and energetic beings. Beings who are connected energetically with power to make change for good.
