One Hour Of Bliss, By Debbie Rosas.

Nia choreography is defined as the art or practice of designing and creating movement sequences with the written notation for choreographic sequences; what we call the Nia “Body of Work,” or “Routine.”  Choreographers who create for Nia Teachers design choreographic sequences using the language of Nia, eclectic music, and the Nia 8BC notation system code.

Nia choreography is intended to provide everyone with movement inspiration and possibilities to reach their greatest potential.  A choreographer delivers the promise of Nia in a one hour, adaptable, easy to personalize, holistic movement experience with both conditioning and self-healing benefits for every unique and individual body, mind, emotion, and spirit of Whole Being.

Improvisational choreography provides students with a general focus to follow as a guideline for interpreting and expressing their own unique body calligraphy and movement composition.

The movement artistry a choreographer uses to design and create lies in the way they develop a well balanced music playlist to stimulate the body, mind, emotions, and spirit of Whole Being. The artistry is also found in the way they arrange the moves, patterns, and steps to the music, as well as going beyond personal likes and dislikes to collaborate with others.

The choreographer also uses both form and structure with specific elements unique to The Nia Technique to communicate that, “Through Movement We Find Health,” in body calligraphy and movement composition, which is the Nia health and wellness benefit. A Nia body of work supports the body, life and lifestyle of Nia teachers, Nia students, and Nia communities.

In Nia we refer to improvisation as, Nia Freedance. Within any Nia body of work, a freedance sequence may be included for student self discovery and self exploration that generally lasts several minutes.

Each Nia hour features songs in a playlist that is used with a unique focus and intention through specific movement patterns and sequencing. From the most literal use of the term “choreography,” which is body calligraphy, movement compositions specific to Nia are drawn from the nine essences in the three elements of healing arts, martial arts, and dance arts.

Within any Nia body of work, planned patterns and movement sequences become the foundation of the “Seven Cycles,” of the one hour Nia experience. This is where the body calligraphy and movement composition structure combines Nia 52 Moves with specific methodology and concepts to deliver the Nia promise of holistic conditioning and self-healing.
