Key Areas Of Body + Life Study,

From Debbie Rosas.

Nia is founded on a comprehensive curriculum designed to optimize the body’s inherent wisdom and blueprint. All Nia principles are rooted in five key areas of study: The Body’s Way Philosophy, Sensation Science, Somatic Anatomy, Movement Creativity, and Music + Sound Resonance. Studying these competencies over time enhances our personal power to create health and vitality and well being in the four realms of our Body, Mind, Emotion, and Spirit.

Western science focuses on empirical data as the basis for generating knowledge in order to turn an observable phenomenon into a scientific truth.

We arrive at any Philosophy through investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality. In this, knowledge or values are based on logical reasoning, rather than on empirical methods. The process of analyzing and clarifying our beliefs is ongoing. In Nia, the philosophy of The Body’s Way is the belief in the inherent wisdom of our body, which we have discovered through conscious questioning and arriving at an understanding of what we believe to be true.

Somatic Anatomy is the scientific study of the adult human body to develop an understanding of the functions of organs and structures of the body. Somatic Anatomy is a living experience of nested biological systems that can be uniquely sensed. As we continually learn to sense and perceive our internal and external environments, we can learn how to live exquisitely. This is the basis of the scientific method we use in Nia, which we have named “Sensation Science.”

Nia draws upon specialized fields of knowledge and uses its own terminology and expertise to develop systematic knowledge about health and well being.

Movement Creativity is an ongoing exploration of fitness and expression of our potential through an energized lifestyle. In Nia, we say “Through Movement We Find Health,” because movement creates the stimulation our body needs to move energy and nourishment to all of the cells and systems of our body. The Nia Technique and our physiological 200/700 or bone/muscle potential is a system for each student to consciously develop “Body Literacy.”

Music and Sound Resonance are the study of profound effects that frequency and vibration have on our body, mind, emotions, and spirit at an atomic and molecular level. Our goal is to enhance knowledge and skills with this guidance to understand the effects of movement through Nia as a somatic art. As ever, everything in Nia is guided toward and explored through personal creativity for the purpose of profound individual and unique transformation!
