On Nia’s Five Core Competencies,
With Debbie Rosas.
One of the things I love about my life with Nia is the opportunity to learn. The Nia five core competencies of Philosophy, Science, Anatomy, Music, and Movement, have affected my life skills and my ability to guide others. They have helped me be a better woman, wife, mother and human being.
These core competencies support how I share the Science, Craft, and Art of Nia. They provide knowledge and meaning. Each is a form of conscious speaking, expressed through one’s body, mind, emotions, and spirit, traveling on the waves of the universal as information in the form of a sensory signature.
I believe when the values and principles by which I live in my life and in my profession are congruent, then all of my choices come from the great origin, my one point, my center of
all centers. From this point I can stand in power and function with the greatest integrity and know whether my belief systems are aligned.
It is the sensation of congruent peace. I feel congruent peace in my belly, heart, and mind as the sensation of having no discrepancy between what I personally and professionally believe to be true. This is a sensation the Sacred Warrior holds in their heart. Once I sense congruent peace in my body I use it to power my choices.
When what I say, do, or think, in my life and in my profession, feels the same, what I stand for personally and professionally comes from the same core values, principles, and beliefs. Making choices out of love, not fear, is part of the philosophy I live by. I must constantly ask, “Where am I making my choices from, love or fear?”
In pursuit of becoming a sacred warrior I ask my students to ask themselves the same questions I have asked myself: “What do I stand for? What do I believe about self as the center of everything? What do I believe about the idea of genius? Why do I do what I do? What makes me extraordinary?”
I never considered myself a scientist. But in 2010, while researching the science of the thirteen Art of Sensation principles, I came to know myself as a Sensation Scientist. Looking back, I see how all of my life experiences and my deep curiosity to explore the body and human potential prepared me for that moment.
My life has been consumed with how to live and function in my body. While I don’t remember much about being a young child, what I do remember speaks volumes about why I believe my purpose is to inspire people to feel to heal. Everything I did taught me how to live my life and survive with learning disabilities.
What I did that made me a great sensation scientist was to listen to my body, to people, and to science. As my body led me to discover my self, my main voice and guide was the voice of my body, which was sensation. I believe becoming a sensation scientist is vital to regaining wisdom lost in the pursuit of thinking.
The idea that harmonic affinity is directly related to potential and that the lack of harmonic affinity can neutralize potential, intrigues me. It always has. My question, “How do I live in my body in healthy and meaningful ways?” has always provided a path for me on my ever transformational body + life journey.
As I have walked the journey of the body; I have always seen a direct correlation between anatomy, body literacy and human potential. Having knowledge of the structure and function of the human body is not enough. I seek to understand more about energy that is continuously moving through me and the universe.
This energy is powerful and I want to know how to access it and use it. I believe this power is activated by the degree of consciousness I use to transform myself into a better Whole Being. As I see it, the ultimate access code into the wisdom of the body is body literacy to walk in the light of a Sacred Warrior.
The more I discover, the more I want to know more, see more, and experience more. I believe that, just like the language of music, anatomy can unify all people. Imagine a world where children are raised to believe they are unique and sacred, born in a body connected to the universe through the light of love.
I view medicine as sound and vibration. I use sound to help me maintain a fluid relationship with the universe so all of my genes, my chemistry, my behaviors and my ways of being become synchronistic vibrations with the sound of the universe. I know I am an instrument, a musician, and a unique song in the universe.
I believe the rhythm and the movement of my life in my thoughts, emotions, and dance create an orchestra of sounds. These oscillating rhythmic waves are things I see and sense as dynamic patterns moving through the amazing nested systems of which I am a part. In everything I do, I seek to make beautiful resonant sounds.
My movement is a reflection of my song, a reflection of my consciousness, and my nervous system dancing with the harmonic sounds of the universe. My body, movement, and rhythms, all work together with my ears that are the only human sense organ capable of perceiving numerical quantity and value.
There is an overture sound of greater consciousness, called forth by the universe, and by the ancient healers who call forth our deeper senses. As a Sacred Warrior I am dedicated to using the beauty of musical sound to compose my “self.” I strive to be in perfect harmony with the Universe, where the origin of genius lies.
I tell people, “I’m not just a mover, I’m a sitter.” I say I’m a sitter because of my ability to sit and stay focused for hours. My ability to sit still is what allows me to intimately listen and communicate with the universe. My wisdom has come from moving and sitting. Both stillness and movement are energy in motion.
It is our perception of movement and stillness that separates them. Whether I’m in stillness or moving, it is the sensation of “oneness” I seek. What I love about sitting is the opportunity to sense my relationship with the movement of the universe speaking to me. I’m able to hear more clearly when I stop moving.
When I stop, I am able to receive the inspiration to create. Whether my hands are moving on the keyboard, or my feet are dancing on the dance floor, or my mind is dancing in the clouds; movement is always there. It is listening that triggers in me the mandate to do, to dance, to write, to sing, and to create miracles.
