Freeing the Genius Of the Many Voices of the Body, By Debbie Rosas.

Sensation is a fascinating gift—a deeply personal experience that connects us to our body’s wisdom. Yet, for many of us, sensation can feel like a double-edged sword. When we feel good, it’s a blessing. When we’re in pain, we wish it would disappear.

But what if we could befriend sensation—both pain and pleasure? What if we could get to know both intimately and use them as guides to achieve a state of physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual well-being, no matter our circumstance?

For me, the sensation journey began with learning to listen to the many voices of my body. Sensation and sensing is a physical experience—a direct route into the body’s own language, which always communicates through signals of pain and pleasure.

Over time, I’ve discovered that paying attention to these sensations allows me to manage discomfort, deepen awareness, and transform self-care. Beyond the physical, sensing has opened doors to my mental, emotional, and mystical states of being.

My personal experience with mystical sensation is one of sacred awareness—a state where my perception expands and I connect to something greater. Through breath and presence, I tap into a complex, self-referential system that my body provides.

Sensation, whether rooted in pain or pleasure, has become my most reliable guide for self-care. It’s the tool I turn to for staying fit, healthy, and well. I often step into the ethereal—a place where I shed layers of outdated thoughts, beliefs, and emotions.

This process creates space for the new self I wish to become. I’m fortunate to have made this journey through Nia, a healing and transformative movement practice. Nia addresses the needs of my whole being—body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

Nia’s science, craft, and art provide tools, methods, and principles that guide me step-by-step to live more skillfully in my body. As my body’s cells die and regenerate, Nia’s practices help support my body’s cycle of renewal to make way for the new.

By staying connected to the sensations of my body in present time, I cultivate curiosity and maintain a beginner’s mind. Every sensation becomes a new opportunity to grow, to learn, and to connect with my genius body and enriches my understanding.

For me, this partnership is a triad relationship: Me (my conscious self), We (my body and I), and Us (all realms of physical and ethereal wisdom) for listening to signals of sensation and making choices that prioritize feeling good and diminishing pain. 

One of my daily body and life practices involves thanking my body’s genius and the Universe for its guidance. This gratitude keeps me attuned to the sensation messages that arise in the present moment, guiding me toward greater comfort and joy.

If you’re ready to reclaim your relationship with sensation then let love, the energy that will move you forward, remind you that our Universe is invested in your happiness. Your body is always ready and able to accompany you on this grand adventure.
