How I Found Mine, With Debbie Rosas.
I didn’t consciously set out to find my energy body. I set out to feel better in my body. To dance. To move from pain into pleasure. But somewhere between the swing of my hips and the silence between songs, I was guided to discover something else. It was a living, pulsing energy field that had been waiting for me all along.
I knew from my martial arts training about energy and chi and I knew from my yoga studies about prana and life force, but I had never explored the energy body or the energy anatomy of the seven chakras with the seven ethereal layers; the subtle realms of energy that wrap around and move through our body like thin veils of light.
I have to call the energy body my second skin. Not made of bones or blood, but of sensation, resonance, and vibration with a deep intuitive knowing. Not logic, but a kind of mysterious wisdom you just know is true. The challenge with any mystery is to trust it! Herein lies the journey and for me, the fun of curiosity and exploration.
My life in a body is something I can see, sense, feel and touch but the deeper exploration of my body was something I could only sense and not see. For me, a deeper exploration began with a question that came during a quiet moment, “What’s the difference between the left and right side of my body, way beyond strength or flexibility.
It was something deeper. Something energetic. That’s when I first learned some schools of thought related to the left side of the body as yin, or the feminine, the moonlit, the receptive side of the body and to the right side of the body as yang, or the masculine, the sunlit, the expressive side of the body. I embraced this and learned a lot.
Most importantly, to me, are these two sides of the body as complementary rivers of force. Life force flows through my body in every breath, every step, every choice I make. I had been moving with them in my body all along and as I directed my attention to each one I got to intimately know them better. I got to sense them as unique.
I also got to feel their different and complementary personalities, their individual powers, and their unique gifts. Once I sensed and felt them, I couldn’t just turn off my awareness of them. For me, this was when studying the energy body got magical through the seven numbered energy layers of the body, from an ancient Chinese approach.
The odd numbered or yang expression centers of energy are defined as moving life force energy outward like solar flares, radiant, expressive, and expanding; while even numbered or yin expression centers of energy are defined as pulling life force inward, receptive, quiet, and magnetic. Together their combined life forces spiral energy.
This energy moves through and around the body like a multidimensional symphony. Vibrating harmoniously, the seven chakra energy centers together with the seven ethereal energy layers of the body carry my unique signature and expression of my being. This intelligence allows me to feel energy moving through my body.
It also provides me with more skills in responding to subtle sensory wisdom. Moreover, this knowledge is part of what I teach as “Sensory IQ” for learning about energy and for translating sensation from the body. Learning to listen to each chakra center and each ethereal energy layer of the body is like learning a new language.
Sometimes the voices of each whisper through my skin and sometimes they pulse like a heartbeat. Understanding this energy language is received through sensation from the body for me to put into words, reminds me that the more I tune in, the more alive I can feel. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
You can explore your energy body by touching the seven chakra centers along the front of your body, one by one. Stand or lie down and touch where each chakra center is located while breathing deeply and listening to the voice of sensation from your body. Then, close your eyes and sweep your hands all around you. Notice anything?
If you sense temperature shifts, tingles, resistance, invitations, then you are sensing your yin and yang energies. Do you notice which side of you, left or right, feels more open, stronger, or more vulnerable? Or, which side wants to lead or follow? You don’t need to believe in energy to experience it. You just need to sense it.
And sensing is what you were born to do.
