Navigating Life

Through X-Ray Anatomy, From Nia, Art of Sensation,
By Debbie Rosas

Life moves in waves. Ebbing and flowing through moments of clarity and uncertainty. Some days we rise with ease. Other days we glide through emotional fog; our bodies heavy with sensation we can’t quite name. For those of us devoted to living with awareness—in our movement and in our choices—our teaching with an essential question becomes, “How do we sail through life’s ups and downs with wisdom?”

I move with The Nia Technique and the truth is, my body is always listening and navigating. It knows what to do to keep us both healthy and well. It asks just one thing from me, “Be in relationship with me, listen and respond to my messages, and make choices and decisions that keep us both healthy and well.” Sounds reasonable and easy enough to me, but in my experience, not always so simple. I need a map.

Nia is my body and life map. A way of being, seeing, listening, sensing and navigating toward a healthy life for me and my body. It is a practice that guides me through chaos and calm, with pathways for living in such an unpredictable world with grace. Nia as my guide and lifelong journey is both my healing and conditioning medicine, my workout and movement art practice, and a lifestyle that keeps me calm on rough seas.

For years now, I’ve learned to listen deeply beneath the surface, beneath skin and structure, into the energy fields and vibrational textures of my body. What began as a new way to move in bare feet and without jumping up and down has become a way of life and a beautiful way to look at the human body and be reminded again and again that, “Through Movement We Find Health.” It is my philosophy and my reminder.

My body always helps me with reading and interpreting the sensory messages it sends me. This is the most important relationship in my life, because my body understands. It is the relationship I often forget when I get too deep into a relationship with another person. But when physical pain, emotional discomfort, mental confusion begin to speak more loudly, I listen to my first partner and caretaker: my body.

We’re all blessed. The human body is patient and wise. Smart enough to know we might need to hear the same message over and over again until we respond. So, how can we manage the intensities of life and begin to listen and respond more quickly to our body? First, by understanding what lies beneath our skin; our anatomy. We cannot see it, but with our imagination and more education, we can sense it.

Our subtle visual, audio, scent, taste, touch sensations of life force energy and wisdom mobilize and influence all of our body’s fifty-trillion cells, while feeding every tissue and system inside our body with exactly what it needs to keep us healthy and well. So secondly, learning to pay attention to our body and to the sensations of our body is key. Here, we learn The Body’s Way for clarifying all we cannot see.

I invite everyone to pause and reflect together with their body. This is The Nia Technique way to stop, to look, to listen, and to imagine a connection between our outside and what we sense inside. It is a method to work in partnership with our body for developing our body intelligence to build both physical and ethereal body literacy. The result of this practice is physical and energetic health, alignment, and resiliency.

X-Ray Anatomy, from Nia, Art of Sensation, allows for seeing beneath the skin for interpreting vertical, horizontal and rotational alignment of bones and joints so we can move pain free and more efficiently. It’s about cultivating inner vision body literacy, seeing beyond skin and muscle to perceive the subtle forces shaping our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual reality. It’s about learning to read a whole new language.

Our body’s way language allows us to sense, decode and interpret layered truths. Truths that come to us through our physical body’s bone, joint, fascia, fluids, breath and muscle tissues and our energy light body’s seven chakras and associated ethereal layers. All of these share energy wisdom, design, and functional dynamics to support alignment, connection, flow motion pulsation, and healthy vibration.

What I’ve come to know and believe is that body literacy is not just anatomical knowledge. It is logic and emotional intelligence. Energetic fluency and mystery wisdom made tangible through sensation. So if life has felt heavy lately. If you’re navigating transition, heartbreak, hope, or healing, then step in with me. Together, we will explore the layered truth of our body and navigate our way through what it is to be alive.
