Awakening the Body’s Sacred Container Intelligence,

by Debbie Rosas.

In Nia, Art of Sensation we explore three body weights that are the pelvis, chest, and head using a method called “isolate to integrate.” This method involves giving attention to a single point of focus for awakening awareness to each part as it relates to the whole. This is a powerful method that makes learning and embodying wisdom easier. Like yours, my pelvis is more than a structure of bone, muscle, and connective tissue; it is a sacred vessel, a cosmic portal, a cradle of life that holds the infinite mystery of existence within the human form.

If you’ve ever sensed excitation in your pelvis, then you understand that it is a cauldron of fire and wisdom. If you’ve ever sensed attraction to move toward or away from another person, you have sensed the pelvis as a bowl of creation. For those of us who practice Yoga or other movement practices, we may have sensed our pelvis as a bridge between the Earth’s grounding force and the limitless expanse of the Universe of which we are a part. No matter the relationship with the pelvis, it contains amazing untapped physical and ethereal wisdom.

It is a wellspring of energy that connects us to our origins and unfolding evolution.  One focus of Nia education is learning to honor the body and all its parts. Honoring our body’s pelvis as a sacred space comes from respecting our body’s design and function; its logic and mystery. When it comes to mystery, I relate to my body’s pelvis as a sanctuary and a sacred space that carries the echoes of my ancestors, the wisdom of the earth, and the energy of my soul’s journey. This is my creative method to blend mystery and mysticism with logic and science.

I can also stick with logic and look at my pelvis as a bony container and the home of my first and second chakras and stop there, but I don’t. I can’t ignore this truth: that we humans are physical and ethereal energy beings. Engaging with our pelvis means entering into a bone and tissue design and function kind of relationship with a profound dialogue that exists as a conversation between the seen and the unseen through physical and energetic messages shared through our body, interpreted through our mind, and influenced by our emotions.

How do we access and engage our body wisdom? Through deep sensory listening. I’m not suggesting that we listen with our ears. This is something beyond hearing—it is sensing, feeling, and allowing ourselves to receive messages through the layered fabric of our being into spaces of heightened awareness, wisdom, and holistic presence.  In this, I invite you to stand and close your eyes and use your hands to sense the front, back, and sides of your pelvic container. Smell the moment, sip the air, sense your lower belly rising and falling.

Become aware of the infinite dance of life force energy moving in your pelvis. Next, wag an imaginary tail at the base of your spine and sense the movement of your pelvis and how it affects your breathing, and how it connects your spine, chest, and head.  The body, by design, contains physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual knowledge. When we listen, we illuminate physical sensation and the energetic patterns that align our energy body and soul with The Body’s Way—which is a way of nature, a way of wisdom, and a way of life itself.

Physical Experience: Grounding into Presence

  1. Breathe and Root: Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Close your eyes and take a deep, expansive breath. Imagine your pelvis as a bowl of sacred energy, filling with golden light, anchoring you to the heartbeat of the Earth, below. Feel this light flow down through your legs and into the ground, like roots seeking nourishment.
  2. Activate Your Foundation: Begin to rock your pelvis gently forward and backward, then side to side. Tune into the natural shift of weight and the pull of gravity as it stabilizes and centers you, like an ancient tree swaying in the wind yet deeply rooted.
  3. Stabilize and Strengthen: Engage your core as you deepen your connection to your pelvis. Feel how it serves as the axis of your physical power, a steady source of strength that allows for effortless movement and unwavering support.
  4. Expand Your Awareness of Sensation: Bring your hands to your lower belly and hips. Sense the bones, muscles, and fascia surrounding your pelvis. What do you feel? Heat, pressure, release? Let these sensations speak to your whole being and reveal the interconnectedness of your body’s unique individual design.
  5. Honor the Body’s Wisdom: With every movement and pause, acknowledge the intelligence of your body. Offer gratitude to your pelvis for its unwavering foundation and the way it shapes your presence in space, guiding you through every step of life’s journey.

Ethereal Experience: Tapping into the Unseen

  1. Feel the Cosmic Cradle: Close your eyes and visualize your pelvis as a celestial bowl, cradling the essence of the universe within it. Imagine this sacred container shimmering with energy, expanding and contracting with the pulse of creation itself.
  2. Activate the Portal of Creation: With slow, intentional movement, circle your pelvis in spirals, waves, and undulations. As you move, visualize energy swirling inside your pelvis, unlocking ancient wisdom encoded within the bones and tissues.
  3. Listen to the Whispers of Your Soul: Settle into stillness and attune to the subtle energetic shifts within. Do you sense a pulse, a vibration, a deep resonance of knowing? Let the quiet language of your body reveal its sacred messages, guiding you into deeper connection with your essence.
  4. Connect with the Chakras and Etheric Layers: Envision your root chakra as a radiant ember, glowing red and pulsing with the rhythm of the Earth’s core. Feel your sacral chakra as a flowing orange river, a vessel of pleasure, creation, and divine sensuality. Sense the etheric layers expanding outward, enveloping you in an iridescent glow of boundless wisdom and energy.
  5. Offer Gratitude to the Sacred Vessel: Rest your hands gently on your pelvis, acknowledging it as the seat of transformation, intuition, and creative power. Honor it as a portal of birth, renewal, and the eternal dance of life-force energy that moves through all things.

Think of your pelvis as a powerful bowl, as a life force chalice, or as a container of infinite potential through the source and the center of energetic physical stability, sensuality, and especially transformation. Think of your pelvis as a reservoir of primal wisdom; where sensation acts as an oracle that whispers messages from the unseen realms and guides us to move, listen, and trust the voice of our body. It is helpful to become aware of both physical and ethereal body messages. Use these helpful hints on how to do just that.
