The Gift of Aikido,
With Debbie Rosas.
Knowing the power of imagination in my process of manifestation and out of a desire to create something better for culture and society; as a daily step in my body and life practice I am using my imagination to step into a Body + Life ādojoā learning environment. Each day, in the mindset of a peaceful warrior or sacred athlete, I play the game of life on the field of my life with a dedication to win my game.
In my beginnerās “never been here before,” mind within my imaginary dojo, I dissolve into the moment and meet what shows up. Guided by sensation, I know my body will guide me in making my choices and decisions, and that I will leave myself and those around me better. Does that mean the people playing the game of life with me on the mat of life will feel happy with my all of choices and actions?
In the midst of all of todayās many different Body + Life challenges I often find myself wondering, āWhat would life look like if there were Body + Life dojos everywhere?”
No. However, like the great Japanese martial artist and founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, if my intent is to meet conflict and create a peaceful resolution, then chances are the strike which people perceive will be far less than if I intended to hurt and do harm. Like Morihei Ueshiba, I too had a goal when creating Nia. While the world has changed, Ueshibaās goal and my goal has never changed.
Morihei Ueshiba’s goal was to create an art which practitioners could use to defend themselves while protecting their attacker from injury. He did this. I wanted to create a movement art which Body + Life practitioners could use to teach people to protect themselves from illness and injury. I intended this, with the addition of the powerful essences of Aikido in The Nia Technique.
An innovative educational space for all people and for all levels of ability to come together to learn together and to help each other to master the art of being fully human.
Morihei Ueshiba wanted to follow the “way of unifying with life energy,ā together with āthe way of harmonious spirit.ā I wanted to follow the design and function of the human body, which became The Body’s Way principles in all my Body + Life education programs. Both our arts helped improve a sense of vitality, of being alive, of Qi energy, of health, and of wellness for the game of life.
In Aikido, blending refers to physically getting out of the way, to shadowing, to looking in the same direction as your opponent. Today, blending with what shows up requires this and a whole lot more. It is the “more” I am discovering by standing at the edge of the unknown and meeting what shows up. Looking, hearing, noticing, seeing, and sensing what others may not see and sense.
I can imagine, so can you!
And, no matter what, I am dedicated to creating connections that support healing, rooting, and strengthening for your Body + Life. To that end, watch for an announcement of my newest Debbie Rosas Body + Life Education program coming very, very soon!
