Welcome Winter Bliss, From Debbie Rosas.
As a sensation scientist researcher I’ve actually interrupted people and disturbed their sense of peace by emailing them and calling them to talk about peace in general and the idea of “newfound peace,” in particular. What surprised me after each interaction was the parting words of most individuals, which were, “Thank you, I now have a sense of newfound peace.”
Was it the question, “How do you define newfound peace?” that prompted this response? Or, was it the tone of my voice, set to intentionally calm? Perhaps it was a timeout from habitual patterns. What I know is that newfound peace is powerfully healing for the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. It is an elixir that positively impacts both the giver and the receiver.
Peace has been explored by many, almost as if it were a landscape with a terrain of hills and valleys. I believe “peace” is an energy which technology promises to deliver with more time and space, and even more peace. This is far from the truth. Technology steals time and peace from us. What is “newfound” is more information than humans could even begin to process.
At first glance, newfound peace can appear as a surprise and not as a result of any conscious effort to relax with an intent to create peace. Here’s a paradox: all life forms create both chaos and peace. When overwhelming, chaos leads to stress, burnout, and lifestyle illnesses. Peace, however, renews physical vitality, calms the mind and emotions, and restores balance in spirit.
Why, then, do so many of us spend so much energy on chaos, while all the while seeking peace with such intensity? Perhaps it is because chaos excites us and provides us with a sense of being more alive and of being alive with more. We often fail to recognize the power of the subtle and the quiet in the spaciousness of nothingness with the importance of slowing down.
Time, as a mental construct, steals our sense of peace. It often leaves us with the feeling that life is slipping past too quickly and that we don’t have enough time. This anxiety robs us of our ability to experience peace. One key is to break free of monotony and to introduce novelty into our lives with whole new experiences that slow the pace of time in our body + life.
When seeking out guidance, I hear a whisper in my spirit saying, “There is nothing to compare with newfound peace. It is not something that can be accessed through the past or the future. It must be discovered in the present moment.” Many of us do not have a working memory of newfound peace. Humanity must rediscover and cultivate newfound peace collectively.
Reminders for Tapping into “Newfound Peace”
- Define Peace for Yourself: Recognize that peace can mean different things to different people. Define what peace looks like and feels like for you, personally.
- Calm Your Mind and Spirit: Quiet mental chatter. Engage in practices like deep breathing, meditation, or simply sitting still in blissful silence.
- Break Free from Old Patterns: Disrupt habitual ways of thinking and acting. Step out of any comfort zone to create space for new experiences.
- Cultivate the Power of Novelty: Introduce new experiences into your life to slow down your perception of time and create a sense of presence.
- Focus on the Present: Release focus on future or past. Engage with “now.” Pay attention to your breath, your heartbeat, and the sensations of your body.
- Let Go of Time as a Mental Construct: Release the stress of time constraints. Don’t rush toward an outcome and remain present with your process.
- Trust Intuition: Learn to trust your intuitive wisdom. Connect to a higher intelligence that transcends any need to think or analyze.
- Let Go of Expectations: Don’t compare newfound peace to anything experienced before. It can only be found in the present moment.
- Embrace Stillness: Recognize that newfound peace often comes in the quiet, subtle moments where nothing is required of you.
- Reconnect with Your Body, Mind, Emotion, and Spirit: Engage all aspects of your being to fully experience the flow of peace.
By incorporating these reminders into your life, you can begin to access newfound peace, an experience that is always available in the present moment, waiting to be discovered.
