Form + Freedom

Body Centered Creativity, With Debbie Rosas.

What if there was a movement practice that could nudge you out of vague patterns, and out of a fog that disorients critical parts of you that make up being human; which are your mind, body, emotions, and spirit? What if there was a movement practice that directed your attention to eight circuits that engaged your brain and body with new, innovative, and fascinating input?

A movement practice that stimulates the Form and Freedom of your individual Authenticity through the expression of your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being. A redirection of an internal compass for your life journey with a momentum that could enhance what it feels to be alive.  A Body Centered Creativity that engaged with the complimentary wisdom of Form andFreedom.  There is.  It is called Nia, Freedance.

Move, Explore, Create

Having spent years combining elements of form, that is to say, “structured movement,” and freedom, which is “unstructured movement,” in order to help break habit and unlock creativity; my belief that ‘form was better than the freedom,” dissolved and my endless creativity was unleashed.

Form said, “Do it this way.” Freedom said, “Do it your way.” And both seemed to want to play and have their way with me and my body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Giving each one time and attention separately, form and freedom helped me identify their unique objective criteria, and ways of guiding me.

Each provided me with an array of choices I could use to create, interpret, and discover something different. Each provided me with a unique kind of power to reorder and reconstruct a new expression of my movement art. Together, they made it possible for me to to Move, Explore, and Create through play and discovery of new ways of thinking, and expressing myself.

Body Centered Creativity

Used on my journey of body centered creativity, the union of form, (structure) and freedom, (unstructured) became an intrinsic dance for sensing my brain’s neuroplasticity, my body’s potential to change, and the evolving continuum of wisdom that emerged from my body’s felt sensation and harmonization with both “do it this way” and “do it your way.”

As I moved, I explored originality, and I created something new as I discovered the expression of body centered creativity.  To my surprise, I also discovered a path to self actualization in the moment-to-moment experience of the authentic expression of my body listening and dancing to music.  Integrating sound with the felt sensation of the novel, the new, and the fascinating; my movement art emerged as something that facilitated a transcendent experience, deepening my perception of being alive, and sensing life force energy.

Over and over again, as I directed my attention to what I called “eight circuits” for the brain that guided my body, my mind, my emotions, and my spirit to move through eight corresponding stages of Nia FreeDance; my movement became more and more genuine. I became more truthful, real, and authentic. I gained a new understanding of the word “whole.”

Whole Being

My dance became a reflection of what it means to live according to my body’s truth and in the end this truth engendered a deeper sense of belonging to myself and to the sensation of holistic fitness, health, and well-being.  As I continued to play with my body, mind, emotion, and spirit parts of being human and explored the sensory study of my authenticity and creativity, I not only expanded my creative potential, but I also gained a greater sense of wholeness both as a concept and as an experience.

Creativity seemed to awaken without manipulating or censoring my movement, but by eliciting my very own expression of what I termed “dance writing” and “body calligraphy,” into my movement art. The play of form and freedom helped me to remove limits, constraints, inhibition, uncertainty, ambiguity and it helped me find the curiosity I thought I had lost.

The eight sensory circuits for stages of Freedance beautifully support sensory integration and sensory processing. Each circuit is unique and each circuit will stimulate your attention, arousal, and adaptive responses which allow for the space to explore and create while facilitating sensory processing to help regulate and organize input from your body to achieve a ‘just right’ optimum level of alertness required to learn about your body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

Your Body Centered Creativity with the new, the novel, and the fascinating will provide the perfect creative tension between Form andFreedom to connect you to the real you, your authentic embodied creative self.
