Learn Authenticity

Learn Authenticity, with Debbie Rosas.

I often get book recommendations from friends. At 73, rarely do they recommend children’s books. Little do they know I love children’s books. I did not come from a home where bedtime stories were the norm. Books were in short supply in our house. Growing up and learning to read for myself, through dyslexia, always included children’s books. This book never made my childhood or even my adulthood reading list. I wish it had. It just might become a mandatory read for my new Awakening education program. I’ll be sure and let you know.

About Dandelion

Dandelion is a healing, rooting, and strengthening narrative for everyone to learn more about authenticity. That can be about the real and true expression of who we are in our world and the world around us. Dandelion is an engaging tale about a lion who receives an invitation to a fancy party and what happens when he thinks he needs to change his authentic expression of who he is in his world for culture and society. As the story unfolds, Dandelion visits Lou the Kangaroo for a haircut, gets his nails done, and the works. What transpires is a discovery that people recognize you, know you, and enjoy you, just as you are and if you show up at their doorstep in any other way, you may not be invited inside!

Meet Dandelion

“From the creator of the beloved Corduroy, here is a charming story about being yourself.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Don Freeman (1908–1978) was the author and illustrator of many popular books for children, including CorduroyA Pocket for Corduroy, and the Caldecott Honor Book Fly High, Fly Low. During his career as an artist, sketching impressions of Broadway shows for the New York Times and The Herald Tribune, he was introduced to the world of children’s literature when William Saroyan asked him to illustrate several books. Soon after, he began to write and illustrate his own books, a career he settled into comfortably and happily. Through his writing, he was able to create his own theater: “I love the flow of turning the pages, the suspense of what’s next. Ideas just come at me and after me. It’s all so natural. I work all the time, long into the night, and it’s such a pleasure. I don’t know when the time ends. I’ve never been happier in my life!” He created many beloved characters in his lifetime, perhaps the most beloved among them a stuffed, overall-wearing bear named Corduroy.”
