From the Studio

“From the Studio” is a featured crafting and teaching section of Awakening Body & Life that includes news, events, stories, articles, and essays about Debbie Rosas’ independent academic and scholarly research, study, discovery and writing in the Sciences, particularly and in the Arts, generally.  Here, you will find much about her time spent in public and private spaces both crafting and teaching Nia Classes and Nia Education Programs, and about her new upcoming Nia Educational Programs, such as, Art of Awakening.

Debbie’s creation of Nia’s fluid design through nine specific movement forms, from three key disciplines, has grown to become a social and cultural phenomenon. Debbie’s 40+ years of expertise in assimilating essences of martial arts, dance arts and healing arts into the practice that is Nia, together with her innovative pedagogical style, has credentialed over 2100 Nia Teachers and Nia Teaching Faculty that have served ever growing and ever changing populations in over 43 countries across the globe.

This has required her continual immersion not only in her studies of the sciences, but in her studies of the arts. It has demanded that extraordinary well managed time and energy in both exploring and creating the methodologies that have come to define a Nia Class and a Nia Education Program experience have been and will continue to be a priority in the places where Debbie, Nia Students, Nia Members, and every member of Nia Teaching Faculty continue to explore foundational principles in mindfulness, movement, music, and more.

Essences from elements of nine movement forms which include, Aikido, Tai chi, Taekwondo, Jazz, Duncan, Modern, Feldenkrais, Alexander, and Yoga are the inspiration for the 52 Moves that define the first moment before “Stepping In,” to the last moment before “Stepping Out,” of any hour of Nia. In this, Debbie has worked tirelessly in her search for music and movement that has exponentially increased diverse and inclusive Nia opportunities for everyone, no matter their ability, age, race, ethnicity, gender, or belief.

“From the Studio” focuses on journeys in Nia Classes and Nia Education Programs. Check back regularly, as new posts are published and made available for public view.
