Dancing Wild!

Debbie Rosas, On Dancing Wild!

I recall thoroughly enjoying the process of creating the Nia body of work called, Wild, and using it as the first Nia class shared on what is now called, “Nia On Demand.” Most of all, the opportunity to share my passion in the Dance Wild Campaign had been meaningful, and important. I love nothing more than dancing in Nia communities and visiting teachers and their students. It is the best!

Over the years, the definition of Nia has included: “Neuromuscular Integrative Action,” or “Non-Impact Aerobics.”  The Swahili definition of “Nia,” means, “with purpose” and the Hebrew definition of “Nia,” means, “a small tiny movement.”  Nia is defined as “Nurturing Internal Awareness” as well as, “Nirvana In Action.” I guess you could say Nia is Wild. I say Nia is like Tao.

Nia cannot be defined by a single word or phrase and Nia cannot be fully experienced in a single hour of movement because Nia is a sensation science, a “living system” that works with the natural wisdom and intelligence of the body, the mind, the spirit, and the emotions of every person. People are unique, which makes it impossible to say that Nia can be defined in only one way.

Music

I loved receiving the music playlist from Stuart for Wild! My request was for him to create a playlist that would be different, sensual, with a quality of the Blues. I got what I asked for and in the process of creating Wild, I experienced what I believe Nia does for most everyone. Nia changes each individual’s perspective and redefines their ways and methods of seeking health and wellness.

Movement

I love how every new Nia body of work challenges who I am and asks me to consider what I believe. I love the creation of movement to music.  I love to revisit Nia education methodology; what is shared as intended to assist everyone in moving and living in their body, while inspiring everyone to celebrate their potential. I love how every workout provides an opportunity to explore something new.

Magic

Today I will teach another Dance Wild event in California, the home where Nia was created. I will do what I teach others to do. I will remind myself not to assume anything; to do my best; to let fascination guide my attention and learning; to make good choices and decisions; to not take anything personally; and to take it all personally, as I am teaching people how to move and feel better.
