On Creating Nia Collectives for Wider Communities, from Debbie Rosas.

If anyone told me I would create collectives of Junior and Senior Nia Faculty as well as Nia Teachers, all sharing a movement art called Nia Technique, as a Founder, Creator, and Director; I would have said, “No way!” Forty plus years later, this is one of the magical things that happened to me when my soul led and my spirit followed. We can all end up doing things we never imagined if we remain open and willing to new life changing endeavors!

At the time, a group of brilliant and curious seekers once gathered to help develop Nia Education Programs with a respect for the needs of the four intelligences of being human: the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Each individual offered different guidance, insights, and feedback. Together they helped affirm that the correct way to develop Nia was by following The Body’s Way as a map that respected the design and function of the human body.

As I observe the 1st Generation of Nia Senior Faculty; it was they who collaborated and contributed to the Nia Teacher knowledge that the 2nd and 3rd Generations of Nia Faculty share today.

Inspired by nine elements from three movement forms, an integration of movement to music that could be personalized for any body was born. In 1983, building on my experience of forming my first Nia Education Faculty from my aerobic company, The Bod Squad, I had much wisdom to guide me. Supporting diversity in Nia Teachers and Faculty was important and the unique style of Nia attracted different backgrounds among health and wellness professionals.

In the development of Nia Education, the primary mission and focus for any Nia Teacher was learning a one hour Nia body of work they could teach. With the integration of the science, anatomy, music, movement, and philosophy that grew the Nia Education Programs of today, Nia Curriculum developed into four levels of mastery through forty hours of integrative body and life Certifications for each, with supplemental 14 hour Specialized Educational Programs.

Over the next months and into the coming years, I will be publishing articles about some of the remarkable and extraordinary Nia Teachers and Faculty who make the Nia experience magical.

As I observe the Nia Senior Faculty, from what I refer to as the 1st generation; it was they who collaborated and contributed to the Nia Teacher knowledge that the 2nd and 3rd generation of Nia Faculty share today. With a few outlines in constant flux, they created a knowledge and a history for future Nia Teachers and Faculty to enjoy. It was their innate curiosity and openness and willingness to act from a “Beginner’s Mind, which defined Nia Education.

As I continue to gather a cooperative, and enthusiastic Faculty to guide Nia Teachers into the future, I know they will continue to empower dynamic collectives and communities while sharing Nia with their incredible gifts and talents in environments where personal creativity supports self actualization and transformation with the freedom to innovate and adapt their Nia Classes and Educational Programs to include unique and diverse students.

Over the next months and into the coming years I will publish more articles about Nia Education History and some of the remarkable Nia Teachers and Faculty who continue to make the Nia experience in their Classes and Educational Programs the kind of health and wellness exploration that offers awakenings into sensory awareness of The Body’s Way, as each and every student learns, Through Movement We Find Health, for every body and life.
